Bureau of Highway Traffic

The Bureau had its beginning at Harvard University in 1925 when a
graduate-level program in traffic engineering was established. Its purpose
was twofold: (1) Provide graduate-level studies in traffic engineering. (2) Conduct research and field studies in traffic
engineering.
Over the life of the Bureau these components continued to be the
focus of the program, but the graduate-level studies became the more
important element.
